About The Land Keeps Time

History isn’t just found in books; it’s written in the soil, the stone, and the spirit of the communities that remain.

Hi, I’m Jules Reagan, and I believe that the land keeps a record of everything that has passed over it.

Welcome to The Land Keeps Time, a project born from a desire to stop “checking off lists” and start truly savoring the places we visit. This space is dedicated to documenting the historical churches of our region and the vibrant, often hidden stories of the communities that grew up around them.

The “Ancient Thread”

My inspiration for this project began with a simple realization: there is an “ancient thread” that connects us to those who came before. Whether it’s the path of 5th-century monks embarking on a precarious sea journey or a lone priest carrying a chalice through a rural valley, these fragments of life are still here if we know how to look.

I don’t just want to tell you when a church was built. I want to show you the “jaw-dropping” scenes, the architectural nuances of a Meem-designed chapel, and the local lore—from outlaw legends to the descendants who still call these valleys home.

How I Work: Research, Notes, and the Lens

Every story you find here is built on three pillars to ensure you get the most authentic experience possible:

  1. Thorough Background Research: I dive deep into archives to find the foundational stories that define a location.
  2. On-Location Notes: I spend time on-site, capturing the “boots-on-the-ground” feel of a place—the sound of the wind through the ruins and the quiet landmark status of a village cemetery.
  3. Original Photography: Every photo you see is taken by me, intended to serve as “documentary evidence” that transports you directly to the scene.

Join the Journey

This project is more than just a blog; it’s a multi-platform exploration. For every post, there is an accompanying YouTube channel (The Land Keeps Time, a history channel & The Land Whispers, a sleep channel) where I take you on a visual tour of these historical sites, providing a “visual extension” of the stories written here.

I invite you to slow down with me. Let’s explore the “roadside surprises,” the quirky history, and the enduring beauty of the land together.

Thank you for being part of this journey to uncover how the land keeps time.
